Homeless records When tunes are composed, records made, pictures painted... they do not always belong to some album or project. Such is the case with this collection of records, each happy to exist alone. |

Short extracts are presented in mp3 format, or the open source alternative ogg vorbis. |

Funk It Up |

Funk It Up remains my most popular recording to date, and has also been successfully rearranged for live performances. This record is also the first appearance of 'Mr Size', the fictional American voice-over character who has since reappeared in my 'Seven Wonders Of The World' mini-album. |

SIMMRA |

Yet another change of style, SIMMRA is built around the big sound of the four bar bass-riff that starts the tune. Perhaps surprisingly considering it's chilled mood, this record was conceived in a moment of anger! The process of recording it went a long way towards calming me down. |

Project X |

This record really was a project all by itself; sampled drums from the first and only time I have sampled a drum kit. Strange mechanical bit-crushed cymbal sounds underneath expansive strings perhaps bring to mind huge futuristic landscapes... and then above this texture rises an almost pink-floydesque guitar sound. |

This remains one of the more bizarre examples of what can happen when I'm left alone too long in a studio! Written in a made up language that very few people understand, this is the Umfaloan National Anthem! Where is Umfaloa?.. I hear you ask. Umfaloa is a fictional island in the South Pacific, invaded and abandoned by many musical cultures, and home of the Coconut Scratch Orchestra. Visit the C.S.O. page here. |

Where Does It Come From? |
One of my pet projects is to change the general perception of the recorder as a dull, squeaky, "primary school instrument". It can be one of the most cheerful, bright sounds in music. Once you've heard the recorder like this you won't think of it the same way again! |
